Human Rights Greetings!
PBHI’s analysis in 2022 on the pattern of state capture repression seems to continue into 2023. The pattern of human rights violations, which was initially incidental and targeted, transformed into an institutionalized pattern, through structured policies and institutions (state capture repressions). In 2023, this pattern was strengthened through a securitization approach in various sectors. This condition led the country to a situation that was worse than the New Order regime.
During 2023, anti-human rights policies continued followed by the impotence of legal institutions. Lack of fullfillment of basic rights, as well as interventions created by the government towards basic fulfillment, to influence political attitudes. Until the birth of a despotic government, with election hijacking and killing of democratic institutions. This condition was aggravated by the lack of consolidation of the civil society movement and human rights activists in the election contestation
This situation results in PBHI taking a firm stance to remain standing with and alongside the people’s movement and reconsolidate with a new approach to encourage the acceleration of strong movement transformation.
In the future, the government is expected to continue the securitization approach to deal with resistance from the people. At this point, there will be an escalation of threats because the securitization approach through the state repression apparatus has the potential to threaten lives. Therefore, this situation needs to be responded to with demilitarization and desecuritization in various aspects. On the other hand, it is also important to reconsolidate the movement and encourage it to return to its organic roots, by strengthening the grassroots of the movement. This is important to encourage a balance of power and authority between the state and the people.
It is hoped that this report can be a joint reflection on the situation for the past year, and to project for the future and encourage the transformation of the movement to maintain fair democracy and human rights.
Be prepared to welcome the encore on the stage!
